The first Wurlitzer piano was made in 1880. This piano was only the beginning of the Wurlitzer monopoly.
The Mighty Wurlitzer, the largest organ in the world, was created in 1910. It had five keyboards and more than 7,200 drums, pipes, cymbals, xylophones, wood blocks, and bells. This musical instrument weighed over 1,000 pounds of solid gold.
In the 1930s, over 45,000 jukeboxes were sold a year.
The DeKalb factory made earphones for the Wurlitzer Electronic Piano, which was first created in 1945, so that only the pianist could hear the music. This was a huge step for families. The parents could be in the same room as their child when he/she was practicing the piano. |
The DeKalb Division created the spinet piano, which was a small piano. It was different from the usual bulky pianos.
